Teachers are enthusiastic about this game because kids love to play it and they willingly push their math skills higher to achieve winning scores. ![]() Four basic math skills board games were set up to show examples of different levels of game play and strategies that encourage students to raise their math skills. Re-Tally-8 can accommodate 2 or more players. Players make teams when there are more than 4 in the group. This game has two players, one using red tiles, the other using orange. Players begin by blindly selecting 8 tiles from their tub of colored numbers. ![]() There are four start positions on the board. The first number of the first equation is placed on the "Start" square in front of the player. Using the tiles selected, one "equals" sign per turn, and as many math operations as desired, the player places an equation on the board. ![]() After each player has made the first equation beginning on the "Start" square, all the new equations are placed at right angles to any equation already on the board. Players look carefully to see what bonus points and multipliers they can use to achieve high scores. If all eight tiles are used in one turn, 30 points are added to the score. ![]() Colored squares on the board with numbers on them are bonus points. If any part of an equation covers a square with bonus points on it, those points are added to the score of the equation. To score, add the value of each individual tiles used in the equation. For example, 33 would be scored as 3+3. ![]() The square with the minus operation on it in the above image has "x3" on it. This means if you make an equation here and it includes a minus sign that is placed exactly on this square, the player triples the score, after adding any bonus points that may be included. The 4x2=8 equation above scores 204 points because of bonus points, a multiplier square and it ends in 8. Any equation that has 8 as its last number has the score doubled. |
